Marian University men’s soccer (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) suffered their first loss of the season falling to Wheaton 4-1 at home.

After a back-and-forth 10 minutes to open the game, Wheaton was able to score a pair of goals in a span of 6:22 to take a 2-0 lead.  After converting a penalty kick and scoring with just under five minutes left in the half, the Thunder were able to take a 4-0 edge into the half.

Marian was able to find more of a rhythm in the second half scoring 11:41 into the stanza.  Freshman Drew Cowden was able to feed fellow freshman Fernando Gonzalez in the box and he was able to go far post from 10 yards out to put the Sabres on the board.  The assist was the fourth of the year for Cowden, while the goal for Gonzalez was the first of his career.

The Sabres had six shots in the defeat with freshman Giuliano Corazina recording half of those shots.  Senior Kevin Cervantes (1-1-0) faced 10 shots making six saves, while freshman Aden Jerome made one save in relief.

Marian closes out the weekend playing at North Central (Ill.) tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 5, for a 5 p.m. kick-off.
