Marian University’s Honors Program provides motivated and driven students who have excellent academic qualifications with an opportunity to participate in a shared learning experience featuring a stimulating curriculum of unique and challenging courses and experiential learning opportunities designed to enrich their education, expand their knowledge, and deepen their global worldviews.
What You Can Expect

- The opportunity to take courses alongside driven and motivated peers and live in Honors-only housing
- Unique and challenging courses that you can take to satisfy required general education credits; these classes involve many of the following components:
- Deep learning where students break through existing paradigms and construct new ones
- Significant practice in critical thinking and thinking across disciplinary boundaries or team-taught from different disciplines
- Service-learning
- Involvement of students in leadership of course or development of course content or activities
- Greater reliance on primary sources or original data rather than traditional textbooks
- Presenting work at formal venues outside of the class
- Innovative pedagogy or approach
- Use of course enrichment opportunities (guest speakers, hands-on experiences, field trips, etc.)
- Approaching the material from an interesting or unconventional thematic perspective
- Applying principles to real-life problems and situations
- Providing opportunities for independent research, publication, or public presentation of work
- Developing assignments that require students to reconcile conflicting findings or to synthesize different points of view
- Experiential learning opportunities, such as out-of-town educational experiences
- Upon completion of the program, you will be awarded with the prestigious distinction of being an “Honors Program Scholar,” which will be noted on your transcript and recognized at Commencement with the privilege of wearing an “Honors Program Scholar” stole.

I feel very honored to serve as a Director of Marian’s Honors Program, which offers a truly unique and stimulating experience for our highly motivated students. Our Honors Program scholars at Marian are a well-rounded, driven group of students; they are incredibly involved on campus and lead many of our student organizations. It is very exciting to work with such an exceptional cohort of students, and I enjoy finding ways to help enrich their college experience!
