International Application Deadline and F1 Visa

International students should plan on submitting all required documents as early as possible to allow sufficient time to process your application, pay your SEVIS fee, apply for your student visa, and arrange for transportation.

Deadlines are as follows:

  • Fall Semester = July 1st
  • Spring Semester = November 1st

Anyone seeking to obtain an F-1 Visa or maintain their current F-1 Visa status is required to prove sufficient financial resources for educational expenses incurred by attending Marian University.

Marian University will issue an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility after the following items have been submitted:

  • Affidavit of Financial Support Form with your sponsor’s information and signature. Click here for the form.
  • Current bank statement or letter from bank showing available funds in USD for financial sponsor

International Freshman Student Requirements

  • Application
  • Official High School Transcript (official English translation required)
  • One of the following English Proficiency Results:
    • TOEFL (Minimum Score: IBT 70, CBT 193, PBT 525)
    • IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.0)

International Transfer Student Requirements

Items required before applicant information is ready for review:

  • Application
  • Official High School Transcript (official English translation required)
  • Official College Transcripts (official English translation required)
  • Official Course-by-Course Transcript Evaluation (required for all courses taken outside of the U.S. and Canada)
  • One of the following English Proficiency Results:
    • TOEFL (Minimum Score: IBT 70, CBT 193, PBT 525)
    • IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.0)
    • STEP/EIKEN  (Level 1 Completion; Japan only)
    • WESLI (Level 700 Completion; plus a letter of recommendation)
    • Spring International Language Center (Advanced Level 6 Completion)
    • Successful completion of one year at a U.S. college/university

We do not evaluate foreign credit for transfer to Marian University. You will need to use an outside credentials evaluation service and have a course-by-course evaluation completed. Please provide an official evaluation of your transcripts by a NACES-approved accredited credential evaluation agency:

International Graduate Student Requirements

Items required before applicant information is ready for review:

  • Application
  • Official course-by-course transcript evaluation (required for all courses taken outside of the U.S. and Canada)
  • Official transcripts from all schools attended in the United States, if applicable
  • A bachelor’s degree is required for those applying for a master’s degree, while a master’s degree is required for those applying for admission to the Ph.D. program
  • One of the following English Proficiency Results:
    • TOEFL (Minimum Score: IBT 70, CBT 193, PBT 525)
    • IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.0)
    • STEP/EIKEN  (Level 1 Completion for students whose native language is Japanese))
    • WESLI (Level 700 Completion; plus a letter of recommendation)
    • Spring International Language Center (Advanced Level 6 Completion)
    • Successful completion of one year at a U.S. college/university

If prior degrees or university academic work has been completed outside of the United States, the applicant will need to use an outside credentials evaluation service and have a course-by-course evaluation completed. Please provide an official evaluation of your transcripts by a NACES-approved accredited credential evaluation agency:

International applicants must submit all required documents by May 1 for the fall semester or October 1 for the spring semester. Upon admission, international students must also submit proof of financial support to be used during the period of study before an I-20 form will be issued.

International Orientation

Mandatory orientation for international freshmen and transfer students occurs at the start of each semester. Upon arrival to campus, all new international students should check-in with the International Student Advisor.

Please bring the following when you check-in:

  • Passport
  • Student Visa (if applicable)
  • I-20
  • I-94 card/print-out of arrival/departure record

Marian University is required review the above documents to confirm your status in the U.S. Failure to provide these documents could result in the loss of your legal status.
