CHICAGO – Marian University women’s volleyball (11-8, 3-4 NACC) fell to Illinois Tech on the road with set scores of 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21 to open the weekend.
The Sabre offense was able to produce double-digit kills in each set and jumped all over IIT in the opening set. Marian was able to produce 15 kills with a .263 hitting percentage, while the defense held the Scarlet Hawks to seven kills with just as many errors.
Illinois Tech was then able to find a way to slow down the Marian offense as the Sabres committed 11 errors in both the second and third set. Both offenses struggled in the fourth set and despite being outhit, Illinois Tech was able to secure the victory.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Merrill produced double-digit kills for the third match in a row with a match-best 16 kills. Senior Brooklyn Taylor had another strong outing in the back row for the Sabres with a match-high 25 digs.
Marian travels to Concordia Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 16 for a 2 p.m. first serve in NACC action.
