PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Marian University women’s soccer (4-6-0, 1-2-0 NACC) snapped a three-game skid defeating Lakeland 8-0 on the road.
Seniors Reilly Louko and Alexis Peterson each had a hand in half of the goals with Louko scoring twice and assisting another pair of goals, while Peterson scored once and assisted three goals. Louko would score the final two goals of the game, the first assisted by Peterson and the final assisted by freshman Kylie Hanley, to put her season total at five.
Sophomore Alicia Balken also had a multi-goal game with a goal in each half of the victory to give her five scores on the year. The game-winner came from freshman Olivia Meerdink who scored in the seventh minute for her seventh goal of the season. Fellow freshman Meghan Batzner also found the net in the 58th minute for her first-career goal. The final goal for Marina came in the 26th minute of the game and was a Lakeland own goal.
The Sabres held a 20-7 advantage in shots including an 11-2 margin in the opening half. Balken and Louko each had four shots to pace the Marian offense.
In goal, freshman Amy Birner (1-0-0) earned her first career shutout stopping all three shots she faced.
Marian returns home for an 11 a.m. game against Concordia Chicago Saturday, Sept. 29.
