Marian University baseball (18-13, 12-6 NACC) earned wins of 7-5 and 12-11 in 10 innings in a sweep of Rockford.

GAME 1

  • Marian was able to get on the board quickly with a first-and-third double steal that plated a run in the first inning.
  • The Sabres would tack on another run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly from junior Jacob Kleeman.
  • An error proved to be costly for the Regents in the fifth as Marian was able to score a pair of runs and lead 4-0.
  • Marian was finally able to break the game open with a three-run sixth inning.
  • Senior Tyler Blum would drive in a pair of runs before junior Ricky Nelson scored on a wild pitch.
  • Rockford made things interesting plating five runs in the seventh but Marian held on for a 7-5 win.

GAME 2

  • Game two opened as a pitching duel with neither side managing a run through the first five innings.
  • Rockford would take its first lead of the day after scoring three runs in the top of the sixth.
  • Marian quickly responded plating four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Junior James Bornick and senior Riley Palmquist would each drive in a run in the frame.
  • The Sabre lead didn’t last long as the Regents quickly tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh.
  • Following the stretch, Marian took the lead in a big way scoring seven runs.
  • Four different Sabres would record a run batted in and three of the Marian runs came on wild pitches.
  • The Regents chipped away at the deficit and eventually sent the game into extras after scoring four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth.
  • Marian opened the 10th inning with a pair of walks and a bunt single from senior Albert Kiszka.
  • This set up Bornick to score the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
