Whether you’re looking to expand your knowledge in your field of study, further your personal interests, or advocate on behalf of yourself and others, Marian University offers a variety of opportunities for learning and networking for every major and interest.

Departmental and Professional Organizations

Mission Statement: Art Club provides opportunities for students to expand upon their artistic abilities while creating a student artist community at Marian University. Art Club strives to offer a safe community environment for students to relax, create, and have freedom of expression.

Activities: We host a number of events throughout the year such as themed holiday events such as Christmas Cards, Valentine’s Day Cards, Pumpkin Carving; tie dye; and group painting events.

Why Should You Join: Students should join Art Club if they are looking for something to do. Students will have fun, play, explore and socialize as a part of Art Club. We are open to all students and artistic levels!

Mission Statement: The purpose of this organization is to provide the opportunity for students to explore interests related to business inside and outside of the University. The organization shall promote friendship, learning, and professional growth through offering a diverse venue of activities.

Activities: We host field trips and provide networking opportunities. We also help students secure business-related internships.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because it provides great networking opportunities and we can help students determine their field of interest within business.

The Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Club is composed of students with the collective interest in various CRJ/HOS agencies. The Club strives to provide students experience with the Criminal Justice System, locally and nationally that is outside of a classroom setting. Students will gain a better insight into these career paths and give students the ability to make connections with outside agencies.

Membership

Anyone is welcome to be a part of the CRJ/HOS Club. You do not have to major or minor in CRJ or HOS to join the club.

Mission Statement: The Exercise & Sport Science Club is determined to provide its members with various opportunities for their educational and career success. We also strive to volunteer and help better the Marian community.

Activities: We host networking events and expert panels.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because we are focused on providing opportunities for students once they graduate from Marian. We also help students secure internships in their field of study.

Mission Statement: The purpose of FSA is to advance the fields of forensic science, develop a greater sense of community, promote understanding, and to stimulate academic achievement and excellence.

Activities: We host multiple major and minor events including a mock crime scene and Wisconsin Wednesdays.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization if they are interested in crime scenes, criminal justice or they would like to know what Forensic Science does.

The goals of the organization are to expose members to the various professional fields of communication; to evaluate differing forms of communication within their specific environments; to give members opportunities to interact with and develop their interests in the various fields of communication; to give member opportunities to explore professional opportunities within the field of communication; and to provide members with opportunities for social interaction with other students who have similar career goals.

Membership

MCA is open to all students.

All education majors are encouraged to join MSEA. Affiliated with national, state, and local education associations, MSEA provides interaction with educational programs and provides many opportunities to work with children and come to understand the education system. The goals of MSEA are: (1) to influence the conditions under which prospective teachers are prepared, thus promoting maximum professional competence; (2) to examine the present and future conditions that confront students preparing to teach; (3) to develop an understanding and appreciation for the education profession; (4) to stimulate the highest ideals of professional ethics, standards, attitudes, and training; and (5) to provide a national, state, and local voice in education for students enrolled in educational programs. Professional activities include conferences and workshops, speakers, tutoring opportunities and participation in observing American Education Week.

Description

We are the organization on campus made up of students who are dedicated to helping students to grow, develop, and succeed academically and in their lives. We talk about information going on in schools, hear from various speakers in the school system or with experience, and do fun activities that can be done in the classroom.

Who can join? Anyone who loves to help students succeed!

Mission Statement: We as nursing students and soon to be professional nurses will not discriminate against creed, ethnic origin, sex, religion, or politics. It is our utmost duty to provide competent professional care to all those patients that we encounter during our commitment to the nursing profession.

During our nursing career we will respect the religion of all clients that we encounter. We will not discriminate between the religious beliefs that our client’s have. Throughout the care of our clients, we will treat them with dignity and respect. We will hold things confidential that are entrusted to us and will provide care that will not harm or endanger our clients.

As we continue our nursing career we will keep our professional knowledge at its highest level. We will keep updated on current nursing trends and be further educated regarding our professional nursing skills that we provide. We will give support to our health care team and will cooperate and follow all rules and regulations.

We will, to our best ability, honor the international code of ethics applied to nursing. During our career we will maintain the integrity of the professional nurse.

Activities: We have a number of speakers who present. We lead service projects and we host a number of events as well. Those events include: cohort challenges, volunteer opportunities such as: presents for pediatrics and Christmas caroling. We also send students to the Nurses’ Convention.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because we will be able to provide insight into the nursing field. We will also be hosting a variety of speakers from the nursing field.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the organization is to assist pre-health individuals by developing skills and knowledge in their fields of interest through inviting guest speakers to campus; going on field trips; providing information on admissions tests, admissions requirements, pre-requisites, and personal statements; arranging community service events; MCAT and GRE prep sessions; volunteering and any other activities decided by the organization.

Activities: We mainly focus on community service and educational events.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization if they have an interest in a healthcare related field. We also have MCAT materials available as well as Nursing study materials.

Psychology Club is an informal gathering of free thinkers who discuss everything from music lyrics and movies to the nature of existence, all while having a great time! Members are involved in campus and community activities related to the field of psychology. Psychology Club is open to anyone with an interest in psychology.

The Science and Math Association (SMA) is open to all students. SMA provides a positive and welcoming attitude, enthusiasm for Marian and on-campus activities and desire to better its community. SMA provides a positive and welcoming environment for students to explore interests, either tangentially or directly, related to science and math. SMA has a desire to enrich the community by participating in on-campus and off campus activities. SMA was the recipient of the President’s Cup Award for Most Outstanding Student Organization in 2008, 2009, and 2017.

Who can join? Anyone is welcome to join, it does help to have an interest in science and/or math but is not necessary.

Mission Statement: With compassion and acceptance, we can change the future, together.

Activities: We host educational seminars, internship panels, social events and fundraising events. We tailor our events to our students.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because anyone can get involved and volunteering looks great on a resumé. In addition, our organization has the resources to connect people of various majors.

General Interest Organizations and Clubs

Mission Statement: The purpose of this women’s fraternity is to cultivate a true spirit of friendship and sisterhood among all of our members; to encourage, aid, and protect one another by all honorable means during life; and to maintain all our proceedings and acts with extreme honor. In addition, this women’s fraternity shall cherish and protect all institutions of learning in which we find our members and our home. Lastly, they will strive to attain those objectives and to establish these principles by the organization and colonization of subordinate University chapters under the National Chapter.

Activities: We focus on recruitment, and bonding activities such as volunteering and hosting fundraisers. We hold monthly sisterhood meetings as well as tutoring sessions.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because it is a small chapter of a larger national organization. Being a smaller chapter, everyone who joins will get a leadership position. While in this organization, you will make friends that may have an influence on your life moving forward.

We strive to help others of color succeed while giving a loving and healthy brotherhood/sisterhood.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the Black Student Union is to help build bridges and breaking barriers with students, faculty, and staff of Marian University. Black Student Union advocates for all students, especially students of color through role-modeling the core value of Social Justice and Community in the community and in and out of the classroom.

Activities: We participate in Community Service projects, educational events, and other fun events. We host a little bit of everything.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because it is a safe space where students will not be judged. It is a great place to get to know people.

Mission Statement: Grounded in the Catholic tradition and therefore respectful of people’s distinct backgrounds, Campus Ministry offers the entire Marian University community opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. Everyone is invited to participate in liturgies, service, and retreats as well as Bible Study, prayer groups, and other discussion groups.

Activities: We host Bible studies, Mass, faith talks and go on a variety of field trips to religious sites. In addition, we also work closely with the Family Resource Center.

Why Should You Join: Students should join Campus Ministry to gain perspective and strengthen their relationship to God. We offer opportunities to expand a student’s resume through volunteering. Lastly, we offer campus mission trips and joining this club can be a stress reliever.

Mission Statement: Developing college and university students into a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service.

Activities: We host a variety of volunteer events including: volunteering at Ruby’s Pantry, Lakeside Park clean up, and Trick or Treat for Canned Goods. We also participate in various fundraisers.

Why Should You Join: Students should join Circle K because it is the largest student-led collegiate service organization with chapters across the globe. Circle K is the collegiate branch of Kiwanis International.

Mission Statement: The purpose of Diversity Club is enhance the multicultural knowledge of university students and the community. Diversity Club strives to bring awareness regarding each student’s cultural diversity and provide a place for students to learn more about their peer’s culture and increase their knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion. Lastly, Diversity Club strives to grow the culture of inclusivity on campus including but is not limited to religion, gender, race, nationality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, physical and mental disability, age, marital status, and other protected class under the Federal and State laws.

Activities: We host anything related to DEI, including national coming out day, various cultural events/holidays and blackout games.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization if they are looking for a place to belong on campus. We are also a place to celebrate DEI and have tough conversations in a safe place.

We compete against other college and university e-sports leagues. In addition, we bring the Marian student community together through campus video game events and competitions.

Why join? Learn to play with a team competitively through strategy and communication or build new friendships through E-sports events and competitions.

Who can join? Any Marian student can join.

Intramural sports are a great way to play a variety of sports without the pressures and commitments of being a member of a varsity team. Intramurals are a great way to stay active, meet new friends, and a good way to relieve the stress of coursework.  Marian offers a wide variety of intramural sports throughout the year and can vary from year to year depending on interest.  Some offered in the past include:

Love Your Melon is a nationwide non-profit organization, that brings awareness to Childhood cancer. Love Your Melon is organization that brings college students from all over the US together, because they all have one goal and that is to help bring awareness and give support to kids battling cancer.

Membership

Everyone is welcomed to join! Freshman-Seniors!

Mission Statement: Marian University Outdoor Adventure Club provides regular outdoor activities, promotes interest in the outdoor activities, and encourages Marian University students to leave as little negative impact on the outdoors as possible.

Activities: We host a variety of outdoor events including: Hiking, Tubing, Fishing and Horseback Riding. We also volunteer.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization because they can meet new people, make connections in college and within the community, and enjoy the outdoors at the same time.

The Sabre Voice Online Newspaper Staff consists of current Marian University students. Many of the Staff Writers are students who volunteered to write and publish for the newspaper in a weekly manner. The staff consists of students with different majors and is open and welcome to students interested in writing for this publication.

Students gain experience working on the publication of a newspaper and gaining writing experience in news writing and reporting, feature writing, sports writing and reporting, layout and design, photojournalism, advertising sales, and management. In addition, the students meet weekly to brainstorm, organize, and publish articles, creating a system that requires teamwork and responsibility.

The Sabre Voice Leadership Team consist of students who can transition into a leadership capacity while earning credits and valuable professional experience.

We are a caring Christian community looking to share the Gospel with those who are curious, God-loving, or looking to know more about Jesus Christ. The purpose of this organization is to make the love of Christ available to everyone on campus. This will usually be done through a Bible Study or group event.

SPECTRUM provides the campus with opportunities to explore the lives and viewpoints of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.  SPECTRUM hosts events supporting awareness and acceptance, dedicated to adding a new aspect of diversity to Marian University and the community in which it resides.  SPECTRUM seeks to educate as well as provide

The Student Senate strives to empower students to develop their strengths and improve their community.

Student Senate needs your voice and support in order to transform the campus into a community of better learners and leaders. Leadership positions open to students are Senators, and Executive Board positions. You are free to attend the assembly meeting, even if you are not a senator or on the Executive Board, every voice matters!

All full-time undergraduate students have a voice in Student Senate! Whether you are a first-year or six-year, your opinions and leadership are valued!

This organization brings awareness to all sorts of issues people may face in life. We do not want to see people struggle alone, we want to be an advocate for them and make everyone aware of real life issues.  We created “#SabresLetsTalk” for mental health awareness, we also dedicated a week to sexual assault awareness and we work to bring awareness to domestic violence, bullying, eating disorders, and many more issues.

Membership

Any and all current students have the opportunity to be a part of “SUAVE.”

Mission Statement: The primary mission of the Student Veterans Organization is to promote and develop a social network for student veterans and their families within the university. SVO works with other military veterans’ organizations to overall enhance benefits and services provided to the student veterans and their families, and provides an atmosphere that continues the traditions of fellowship and camaraderie for students with military service and future military service.

Activities: We meet every other Monday to go over how we can give back to the local veterans’ community.

Why Should You Join: Students should join our organization for the camaraderie, for additional support during your collegiate experience, and to give back to veterans.

Honorary Societies

Delta Epsilon Sigma is a national scholastic honor society comprised of students, faculty, staff and alumni. It was founded in 1939 to recognize academic accomplishments; foster scholarly activities, community involvement and service learning; and encourage a sense of intellectual endeavors among its members. National recognition is accorded through the local chapter, Delta Tau. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 are eligible for membership. The society sponsors an annual National Student Award, an annual undergraduate award, an annual fellowship and an annual writing competition award. Eligibility begins after sophomore year.

Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, is dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. The Society is a community of scholars dedicated to worthy ideals: We recognize scholarship and excellence in education. We promote the development and dissemination of worthy educational ideas and practices. We enhance the continuous growth and leadership of our diverse membership. We foster inquiry and reflection on significant educational issues and we maintain a high degree of professional fellowship. Marian University’s Alpha Delta Theta chapter truly lives by the Kappa Delta Pi motto: “So to teach, so to serve, so to live.”

The communication department at Marian University is affiliated with the National Communication Association Honor Society of Lambda Pi Eta and is under the charter of the Mu Mu Chapter. Lambda Pi Eta recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies; stimulates interest in the field of communication; promotes and encourages professional development among communication majors; provides an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication; establishes and maintains close relationships between faculty and students; and explores options for graduate education in communication studies. In order to be eligible for the honor society, students must meet the following requirements: earn at least 60 university credits, earn at least 12 credits in Communication, hold a 3.0 overall GPA, and hold a 3.25 GPA in Communication coursework.

The purposes of the Phi Alpha honor society are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship as a social work major, achieved sophomore status, completed nine semester hours of required social work courses, achieved an overall grade point average of 3.0, and a 3.25 GPA in required social work courses.

Pi Gamma Mu, International Honor Society in Social Sciences, recognizes academic achievements and offers enrichment opportunities through service projects, publications, scholarships, and lectureship grants. Students interested in becoming members must meet the following criteria: minimum 3.0 GPA, completion of 20 semester hours in social science courses, and placement in the upper 35 percent of their class. University personnel are welcome to accept the privileges and responsibilities of membership as well.

Sigma Beta Delta is an honor society for students who are pursuing baccalaureate degrees in business, management or business administration. The Society recognizes the principles of wisdom, honor and the pursuit of meaningful aspirations as important for academic success. Additionally, they serve as guidelines that lead to a fulfilling personal and professional – one distinguished by honorable service to humanity. To be eligible for national recognition and lifetime membership, a student must be a junior or a senior and ranked in the upper 20 percent of the class. Eligible students are notified. Sigma Tau Delta provides English majors an opportunity to interact with others in their major for enjoyment, increased intellectual and aesthetic awareness and a better overall sense of their discipline’s career opportunities. Sigma Tau Delta offers information, publishing opportunities and organized events and activities students can use to fully realize their potential as English majors.

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society that strives to foster literacy within society and connect English students with each other and opportunities in their field of study.

Membership

Candidates for undergraduate membership must have completed a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature beyond the usual requirements in freshman English. The candidate must have a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English and in general scholarship, must rank* at least in the highest thirty-five percent of his/her class, and must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college course work. (Local chapters may raise, but not lower, these criteria.) Candidates for undergraduate membership need not be majoring or minoring in the discipline of English. *This requirement may also be interpreted as “have an overall B average in general scholarship” (e.g., 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).

The purpose of the Theta Alpha Kappa Honor Society is to honor those who have shown excellence and promise of continued growth in the discipline of theology. The Society aims to advance this discipline by encouraging research, good teaching, publication and an intellectual and social exchange among students, teachers and writers in this field. Students interested in becoming members must meet the following criteria: complete at least three semesters in good standing, complete a minimum of twelve semester credits in theological studies, attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 in these courses, a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, and be ranked in at least the upper 35% of their class in general scholarship.

Service Learning

The purpose of Marian University’s Service Learning Program is to coordinate and support curricular and co-curricular activities that enhance student learning, promote civic engagement and responsibility, and respond to the critical needs of the Fond du Lac Community. The key to service learning is a connection between theory and practice to enhance student learning.

Marian University is a member of the Wisconsin Campus Compact which is a coalition of nearly 1,200 colleges and universities – representing some 6 million students – who are committed to fulfilling the public purpose of higher education. As the only national association dedicated to this mission, Campus Compact is a leader in building civic engagement into campus and academic life.
