Marian University women’s lacrosse (0-9, 0-1 NACC) was defeated 15-4 by Concordia Chicago in their first NACC game of the season.
The Cougars were able to score the first four goals of the game before freshman Izzy Newton found the back of the net with an assist to sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke. CUC was able to end the scoring for the quarter and take a 5-1 lead. Newton scored her second goal of the game to put the Marian deficit at three but the Cougars responded with three straight goals. The third goal of the game for Newton then came with just 53 seconds remaining, assist to fellow freshman Emma Heide, to put the score at 8-3 going into the break.
Marian would struggle on the offensive end in the second half with freshman Taylor Russo netting the only goal for Marian in the third quarter. The Cougars were able to score three goals in the fourth and hold Marian scoreless to set the final at 15-4.
Sophomores Emilee Magill and Jazmine Barrios each had five ground balls, while Newton had three draw controls and forced a pair of turnovers to go with her hat trick. Freshman Gwen Kosirog (0-9) made 14 saves on 29 shots in net for the Sabres.
