Marian University women’s basketball (2-10, 1-4 NACC) led by one going into the fourth quarter but fell 53-45 to Rockford.

  • Neither offense could find a rhythm in the opening quarter with Marian not managing a field goal on eight attempts as Rockford held an early 11-4 lead.
  • The Regents built a double-digit lead to open the second quarter before seven unanswered Marian points later in the stanza had the Sabres trailing just 21-20.
  • Rockford would manage to hold off Marian and led 24-22 going into the half.
  • The Sabres tied the game to open the scoring for the third quarter but a small 8-3 run gave Rockford a five-point advantage.
  • The Regents held a 37-32 lead with 3:51 left in the third before Marian closed out the quarter with six unanswered points to take its first lead of the game at 38-37.
  • Marian built its lead to as large as four at 42-38 with 6:55 left to play but Rockford battled back with a 15-3 run to close out the game and set the final at 53-45.
  • Marian shot 17-of-49 (.347) for the game and was just 3-of-18 (.167) from beyond the arc. The Sabres shot just 3-of-12 (.250) from the field in the fourth quarter and didn’t hit a three-pointer on seven attempts.
  • Rockford was 20-of-53 (.377) from the field for the game and shot 5-of-11 (.455) in the final quarter.
  • Marian dominated down low outrebounding Rockford 44-23 and outscoring the Regents 26-12 in the paint.
  • The Regents forced 27 Marian turnovers and outscored the Sabres 17-2 in points off turnovers.
