Marian University women’s basketball (6-16, 5-11 NACC) led by as much as 13 but fell to Lakeland on a last second layup 77-75.

  • Marian trailed 13-9 to open the game before scoring 12 unanswered points to go ahead 21-13 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Muskies were able to cut the Marian lead down to two at 35-33 before another strong finish to the second quarter saw Marian create a cushion.
  • The Sabre defense once again didn’t allow a point in the final 3:06 of the half and scored nine straight to lead 44-33 at the half.
  • Marian held its double-digit lead for the first 4:39 of the third quarter before Lakeland rallied.
  • An 18-7 run to close out the third quarter saw Lakeland trail by just one at 60-59 going into the final stanza.
  • Lakeland immediately took the lead in the fourth quarter with a 9-1 run and led 72-65 with 3:25 to play.
  • Marian was able to rally and tied the game at 75-75 with 8.8 seconds remaining.
  • The final possession, however, saw Lakeland record a layup with 2.3 seconds left to come away with the 77-75 win.
  • The opening half saw Marian shoot 16-of-33 (.485) from the field and 4-of-11 (.364) from beyond the arc.
  • Marian finished 26-of-61 (.426) for the game and 17-of-21 (.810) from the charity stripe.
  • Lakeland shot 29-of-75 (.387) for the game and was 9-of-22 (.409) on three-pointers.
  • The Sabre defense forced 12 Lakeland turnovers and outscored the Muskies 18-8 in points off turnovers.
  • The Muskies outscored Marian 10-5 in second-chance points after securing 20 offensive rebounds.
