Marian University women’s basketball (6-14, 4-10 NACC) trailed by as little as four points in the fourth quarter but were defeated by Edgewood 82-65.
The opening quarter was tough for the Sabres as Edgewood was able to use an 8-2 run to end the stanza with an 18-9 advantage. A 9-3 run at the beginning of the second saw the Sabres cut their deficit down to five at 23-18. The Eagles were able to extend their lead back out to 13 but Marian battled at the end of the quarter with an 8-2 spurt to trail just 41-33 at the break.
Edgewood once again had a strong start to the third building a 10-point advantage going into the final quarter. Marian opened the fourth quarter scoring the first six points to cut the Edgewood lead down to just 57-53 with 9:29 left on the clock. The Eagles were able to quickly respond, however, using a 13-1 spurt to pull ahead 70-54 and cruise to the 82-65 final.
Senior Paris Harris led the way for Marian with 20 points and five rebounds, whiel freshman Lexi Brakebush added 12 points off the bench. Senior Sierra Strope-Robinson and junior Brianna Martin each had three steals on the defensive end.
Marian opens the final road trip of the regular season at Lakeland Tuesday, February 8 for a 7 p.m. tip.
