LISLE, Ill. – Marian University softball (5-9, 0-2 NACC) was defeated 10-2 in five innings and 11-10 in 11 innings at Benedictine.
GAME 1
- The Benedictine offense had a strong opening game scoring multiple runs in three of four innings.
- Sophomore Kerena Wood drove in a run with a double in the second and freshman Ariana Schliepp hit her third home run of the season in the fifth.
GAME 2
- Marian came out quick in game two but Benedictine was able to rally to secure a sweep.
- The Sabres would score nine runs in the top half of the first inning.
- Freshman Hope Matta and junior Katelyn Matenaer each drove in two runs to highlight the big inning.
- Benedictine responded scoring four runs in its half of the first inning and tied the game at 9-9 with five in the second.
- Marian immediately retook the lead in the third with Matenaer driving in her third run of the game with a single.
- The Eagles once again immediately had a response tying the game with a run of their own.
- Both offenses then went quiet for the next seven innings with Benedictine earning a walk-off win scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th.
