MONTGOMERY, Ill. – Marian University softball (7-11, 2-4 NACC) was defeated on the road at Aurora 5-3 and 9-1 in five innings.

GAME 1

  • The Spartans opened the scoring in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead in the third.
  • A double from senior Julia Corona got Marian on the board in the fourth to cut the deficit in half.
  • Aurora had an immediate answer scoring two runs in the fourth to build its lead back out to 4-1.
  • The Spartans would add insurance in the sixth inning with a run.
  • Freshman Ariana Schliepp went deep for the fifth time this season in the seventh inning, a two-run homer, but Aurora held off Marian following that.

GAME 2

  • Aurora scored in every inning, except for the first, to earn the sweep.
  • Junior Katelyn Matenaer drove in the only Marian run in the third inning.
  • The Spartans capped off the game with three runs in the fifth inning.
