BLAINE, Minn. – Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (0-1-0) allowed three goals in the third period falling to Bethel 5-2.

  • Marian was able to jump out to a quick start when junior Daunte Fortner opened the scoring just 2:14 into the game with an assist from fellow junior Jaymes Knee.
  • The Royals answered at the 8:48 mark to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
  • The Sabres were able to strike first in the second period when Knee lit the lamp with assists from senior Nicholas Cherkowski and Fortner at the 11:25 mark.
  • Bethel once again had an answer, however, scoring just 2:36 later to tie the game 2-2 after two periods.
  • The Royals took their first lead of the game 3:09 into the third period and extended the lead to 4-2 with just 5:59 to play.
  • An empty-net goal with just 1:28 to play would seal the victory for Bethel.
  • Marian outshot Bethel in all three periods finishing with a 33-20 edge. The second period saw the Sabres outshoot the Royals 14-4.
  • Each team committed five penalties with Marian going 0-for-2 on the power play and Bethel going scoreless on three chances.
  • The victory for Bethel snaps a four-game winning streak for Marian in the all-time series.
  • This is just the second time Marian has fallen in its season opener since the 2017-18 season.
