MONMOUTH, Ill. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (0-1, 0-0 NACC) fell in their first game of the season 14-12 at Monmouth.

The Fighting Scots were able to take an early 4-2 lead in the opening quarter before Marian rallied to tie tht game at 6-6 heading into the second.  The Sabres were able to take advantage of a pair of man-up situations in the quarter.  The second quarter, however, was all Monmouth as the Fighting Scots scored five goals to take an 11-6 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw the defenses find their stride as each team was only able to score one goal.  The Monmouth goal came with a man-up.  The Fighting Scots were able to build their lead out to 14-8 before Marian scored four unanswered goals in the final 3:57 to set the final at 14-12.

Senior Nick Klotz led the offense scoring four goals with a pair of assists, while fellow senior Finn Maloney would score three goals.  The defense was paced by freshman Ben Martin who had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Junior Richard Summers III (0-1) made 14 saves for the Sabres in goal.

Marian hits the road for Northland Saturday, February 26 taking on the LumberJacks at 2 p.m.
