ANGOLA, Ind. – Marian University men’s hockey (5-5-1, 1-4-1-0 NCHA) fell to Trine 4-3 in game two of an NCHA series.
The opening period was busy in terms of scoring with the two squads combining for five goals. The Thunder opened with the first two goals, 52 seconds apart, before sophomore Brady Lynn lit the lamp to put the Sabres on the board, assist to senior Blaine Caton. Trine would push their lead out to 3-1 before senior Parker Colley scored without an assist at the 11:46 mark. Marian outshot the Thunder by a 14-5 margin in the opening stanza.
Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, but Trine padded their lead to 4-2 11:26 into the final period. Colley would net his second of the game just 1:36 later with assists to senior Nathan Walker and sophomore Mason Richey, but Marian was unable to find the equalizing goal.
The Sabres finished with a 32-25 edge in shots with Colley recording six shots. Junior Colby Muise (4-5-1) held the Thunder scoreless on four power plays and made 21 saves in the game.
Marian opens the second half of the season at the Superior Showdown Thursday, December 30 taking on host UW-Superior at 7:05 p.m.
