Marian University men’s basketball (2-15, 2-8 NACC) hung with UW-Superior but a slow start to the second half saw the Yellow Jackets defeat MU 67-58.

  • The early going was back-and-forth with the largest lead being a meager four points leading to a 20-18 UW-Superior lead with 8:03 left in the first half.
  • A quick run of 10-2 saw the Yellow Jackets build a double-digit lead at 30-20.
  • The Sabres responded with eight unanswered points to only trail two and that proved to be the deficit going into halftime at 34-32.
  • The Marian offense struggled in the opening minutes of the second half and UW-Superior took advantage with a 12-2 run to lead 46-34 with 14:37 on the clock.
  • Marian was able to stick around, however, and only trailed 57-48 with 3:56 to play.
  • The Sabres then went on a 10-4 run to trail 61-58 and 1:58 left to play.
  • This would be as close as Marian would get, though, as the Yellow Jackets ended the game with six unanswered points, four from the charity stripe, to put the final at 67-58.
  • Marian shot 20-of-54 (.370) from the field and were limited to 8-of-30 (.267) shooting from beyond the arc.
  • UW-Superior would go 20-of-43 (.465) from the field and 2-of-8 (.250) on three-pointers.
  • UWS took advantage at the charity stripe going 25-of-29 (.862).
  • Marian won the turnover battle by a 14-11 margin and had 10 steals, their 11th game this season with double-digit steals.
  • The battle in the paint saw UWS hold a 32-22 edge in scoring.
  • The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-1 all-time against Marian with their first road win over the Sabres.
