Marian University baseball (11-10, 4-4 NACC) was defeated by No. 15 Aurora 18-14 and 15-5 in seven innings.

GAME 1

  • A slugfest broke out in game one as the two teams combined for 32 runs on 35 hits.
  • The Sabres took a 3-0 lead after two innings only to have Aurora score four in the third to take a 4-3 lead.
  • Junior Robbie Knorr drove in a run with a double in the third to tie the game, but once again the Spartans responded with two runs in the fourth.
  • Marian retook the lead in the fifth inning after scoring six runs.
  • Sophomore James Bornick drove in two runs with a double to highlight the big inning.
  • The Spartans answered in the seventh cutting its deficit down to 10-8.
  • Bornick once again extended the Marian lead with a double to put the Sabres ahead 12-8 after seven.
  • Aurora responded in its half of the eight scoring five runs to retake the lead at 13-12.
  • Bornick would have his own response again in the eighth driving in another two runs with a double to put Marian ahead 15-14.
  • The lead didn’t last, however, as Aurora quickly scored another five runs in the ninth to earn an 18-14 win.

GAME 2

  • The Spartans took control early scoring 14 runs between the first two innings.
  • Marian was able to score the final five runs of the game sparked by a three-run fourth inning.
  • The Sabres had a chance to keep the game alive past the seventh but a double play would close out the sweep for Aurora.
