DUBUQUE, Iowa – Marian University baseball (4-6, 0-0 NACC) was defeated 9-7 and 3-2 to close out a three-game series at Dubuque.

The Sabres were able to put together a big rally in the seventh but Dubuque immediately responded to take game one of the twin bill.  After a single from sophomore Joe Koscinski opened the scoring in the second, Dubuque scored six unanswered runs from the third to the fifth inning.  Junior Brady Zackrison started the seventh-inning rally for Marian with a double that scored a pair of runs.  Freshman Gus Walker followed with a double to drive in a pair and graduate student Sean Meyer hit a single to bring in a pair of runs that gave Marian a 7-6 lead.

Dubuque was able to respond in the next half-inning plating three runs to retake a two-run lead at 9-7.  The Sabres were able to get the tying run on base in the ninth but couldn’t put together another rally.

Zackrison had the lone multi-hit game for Marian going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two driven in, while sophomore Riley Palmquist scored a pair of runs.  Sophomore Connor Medvecz (0-1) suffered the loss, while senior Mac Doherty didn’t allow a hit over the last 1.1 innings of relief.

Game two of the twin bill followed a similar script with Marian dropping a pitching duel 3-2.  The Spartans struck first for a pair of runs in the first inning.  Bornick cut the lead in half with a single in the fourth scoring Meyer.  Down to their final out, Meyer was able to single in the ninth to plate sophomore Logan Rademan and tie the game at two.  Dubuque responded with a two-out hit themselves in the bottom half, however, to earn a walkoff win.

Meyer went 2-for-5, and sophomore Robbie Knorr had his first multi-hit game of the year going 2-for-4.  Sophomore Logan Lange bounced back after his tough first inning to produce a dominating start.  Lange allowed just three hits with four strikeouts over 8.0 innings and didn’t factor into the decision.

Marian is scheduled to host St. Scholastica Tuesday, March 29 for a 1 p.m. twin bill.
