Marian University women’s soccer (3-5-1, 3-2-0 NACC) trailed just 1-0 at the half but MSOE scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Sabres 5-1.
The lone goal of the opening stanza came off of a corner kick where MSOE was able to head it in to take a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless five minutes to open the second half, MSOE scored four goals in a span of 11:29 to take a 5-0 lead.
Marian was able to end the shutout just 1:20 after the final Raider goal when junior Ashley Welk sent in a cross to senior Shannon Coughlin who beat the keeper near post for her third goal of the year.
Junior Amy Birner (3-4-1) made nine saves with six of her stops coming in the first half, while Welk and Coughlin each had multiple shots in the defeat.
Marian hits the road for four of their next five games opening at IIT Saturday, Oct. 2 for a 6 p.m. kick-off.
