RIPON, Wis. – Marian University men’s soccer (2-2-0, 0-0-0 NACC) earned their first shutout of the season defeating Ripon 4-0 on the road.
The first half was dominated by the Sabres with Marian outshooting the Red Hawks 7-1. Despite the early control the Sabres were only able to find the back of the net once when freshman Giuliano Corazzina scored in the eighth minute with an assist to fellow freshman Zach Paxton.
The Sabres wasted no time scoring to open the second half of the game as sophomore Max Kauffman was able to find the back of the net just 28 seconds in, his fourth tally of the year. Paxton was then able to net his first goal of the season with an assist to sophomore Chase Hayden in the 58th minute to put Marian ahead 3-0. Just 3:49 later, Corazzina secured a multi-goal game, his second multi-score game of the season already, with an assist to senior Josiah Kusik that set the final at 4-0.
Marian was able to finish the game with a 17-6 advantage in shots only allowing Ripon to send three shots on goal. Kauffman posted a game-high five shots, three of which were on frame, to lead the Sabres.
Senior Kevin Cervantes (2-1-0) stopped a pair of shots in his 75:07 of action, and freshman Joey Sommerfeld stopped the only shot he saw in the remaining 14:53 of the game in his first collegiate appearance.
The victory marks the 250th win for Craig Peltonen with the Marian men’s soccer program.
Marian returns home to take on Augustana (Ill.) in their final non-conference game of the season Saturday, Sept. 11 for a 6 p.m. kick-off.
