AURORA, Ill. – Marian University men’s soccer (5-10-0, 2-8-0 NACC) scored the first three goals of the game en route to a convincing 3-1 road victory over Aurora.
The opening half of play saw the Spartans outshoot the Sabres 10-7 but Marian was the only team to find the back of the net. Freshman Zach Paxton was the goal scorer for the Sabres as he netted his third goal of the season at the 24:10 mark with an assist to fellow freshman Giuliano Corazzina.
Corazzina then added to his stat sheet scoring 8:08 into the second half with assists to sophomores Max Kauffman and Walter Sebastian. He wasn’t finished, however, as Corazzina found the back of the net at the 64:43 mark for his 10th goal of the year. Freshman Drew Cowden earned his 11th assist on the season putting him two assists away from tying the single-season Marian record. The Spartans were able to end the Marian shutout in the 72nd minute to put the final at 3-1.
Aurora finished the match with a 21-11 edge in shots with Corazzina sending a game-high five shots. Freshman Aden Jerome (2-5-0) made seven saves with an .875 save percentage in the win.
Marian travels to Lakeland for a 7 p.m. kick-off Wednesday, Oct. 20 for a NACC match.
