PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Marian University women’s basketball (6-15, 4-8 NACC) led for most of the game but a tough third quarter lifted Lakeland past Marian 76-71.

  • After a 4-4 start, Marian dominated the remainder of the first quarter outscoring Lakeland 16-3 to take a 20-7 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Lakeland quickly cut into that deficit going on a 13-2 run to only trail 22-20 with 7:41 left in the half.
  • .The Sabres were able to respond with an 8-1 run to build a nine-point lead.
  • The runs continued as the Muskies answered scoring 10 straight points to take a 31-30 lead.
  • Marian closed out the final 2:36 strong, however, using an 11-1 run to take a 41-32 lead into halftime.
  • The third quarter saw the Muskies chip away at the Marian lead but the Sabres still maintained a 51-48 lead with 1:52 left in the quarter.
  • Lakeland then finished the stanza with 12 unanswered points to go into the final quarter leading 60-51.
  • The Muskies outscored Marian 28-10 for the quarter.
  • Lakeland built its lead to as large as 16 before Marian scored 12 unanswered points to only trail 67-63 with 4:40 to play.
  • The final push wouldn’t be enough for the Sabres as Lakeland would hold off the Sabres for a 76-71 final.
  • Marian outscored Lakeland 20-16 over the final 10 minutes.
  • Marian finished 28-of-65 (.431) from the field and was limited to 3-of-26 (.115) shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Lakeland finished 28-of-67 (.418) and 10-of-27 (.370) on three-pointers.
  • The Sabres outscored Lakeland 38-32 in the paint but the Muskies held a 22-10 edge in fast break points.
  • With the loss, Marian falls one game behind Rockford and Lakeland who are tied for the final postseason spot.
