MILWAUKEE / FOND DU LAC – No. 7 Marian University ACHA D2 (10-12-1, 3-5-0 NCHL) defeated No. 17 Marquette 5-4 in overtime before settling for a split falling 6-3 in the finale.
GAME 1
- Marquette was able to get out to a quick start on the Sabres scoring three goals in the first 9:01 of the game.
- Easton Nick would light the lamp for the 10th time this season to cut the Marian deficit down to 3-1 going into the first intermission.
- Each team found the back of the net once in the second period with Dean Whitcomb scoring for the Sabres as Marian trailed 4-2 going into the final period.
- Marian would score twice in the final 3:40 to force overtime with Ben Borreson and Dawson Schwengler each scoring.
- Schwengler then capped off the comeback victory scoring in overtime.
GAME 2
- Special teams played a major factor in the first period as each team scored three goals. Marquette would score a pair of power-play goals and a short-handed goal, while Marian had a power-play goal.
- Karl Lavoie had a pair of goals for Marian and Colby Sherlock had the power-play goal in the busy opening period.
- Marquette then scored a goal in the second and two in the third with one of the scores in the final period being a power-play score.
GAME 1
- Marquette finished with a 37-36 advantage in shots where Marian held a 15-10 advantage in the final period.
- The Sabres had eight penalties and Marquette had five.
GAME 2
- Marian outshot Marquette in all three periods and finished with a 31-29 advantage.
- Marian committed 11 penalties to only nine for Marquette.
