WINONA, Minn. – Marian University women’s volleyball (2-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Carleton in four sets and Lawrence in straight sets to finish the Sugar Loaf Classic.

MARIAN VS. CARLETON / 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19

  • The Sabres were able to take command early with a strong start from the offense as Marian had 12 kills and hit .333.
  • Carleton was able to answer especially on the defensive side as the Sabres were held to a .045 hitting percentage in the second set.
  • Marian bounced back in teh third recording a sideout percentage of 65.0 percent.
  • The Sabres also had 17 kills in the third set as Marian grabbed a 2-1 lead.
  • The fourth set saw the Marian defense allow just two Carleton kills and a -.095 attack percentage to seal the first win of the season.

MARIAN VS. LAWRENCE / 25-11, 27-25, 25-16

  • The Sabre defense was especially dominant as the Sabres were able to close out the tournament with a convincing sweep of Lawrence.
  • Marian opened the match with a 10-1 run to easily cruise to a win in set two.
  • The Sabres were able to show toughness late in set two battling off a pair of set-point opportunities for Lawrence.
  • Marian was able to close out the set with a pair of kills sandwiched around an LU attacking error.
  • With the momentum, Marian scored the first six points of set three only to have Lawrence to rally and take a 10-9 advantage.
  • After the set was tied at 13-13, Marian took control for good with an 8-1 spurt to secure the sweep.

MARIAN VS. CARLETON

  • The Marian offense dominated holding a 55-33 edge in kills, while the back row had a 67-60 advantage in digs.
  • The Sabres set a season-high recording 12 service aces as a team.
  • Marian improves to 2-0 all-time against Carleton, both four-set victories.

MARIAN VS. LAWRENCE

  • The Sabres limited Lawrence to a .000 hitting percentage including a first set where Lawrence hit -.316 and didn’t record a single kill.
  • The Marian offense finished with a 45-16 advantage in kills and hit .289 for the match.
  • Marian had another 11 aces at the service line in the win.
  • This marked the first Marian win over Lawrence since 2018, a sweep at home.
