Marian women’s volleyball bounces back with sweep of Rockford

Marian University women’s volleyball (9-11, 4-5 NACC) continued their push for a NACC Tournament spot sweeping Rockford 25-17, 25-20, and 25-12.

The Sabres started slowly trailing 8-6 before MU bounced back with an 8-1 run to take a 14-9 advantage.  Marian was able to maintain this lead to take the first set and closed out the opener with a .333 hitting percentage and 16 kills in the set.  Senior Alexandra Meidl had a big start with eight kills in the first set to go with a .583 hitting percentage.

Similarly, Marian trailed entering the second set 6-2 early, but the Sabres were able to score 14 of the next 16 points and take a commanding 16-8 advantage. Rockford managed to rattle off a 7-0 streak late but the Sabres were able to hold off late.

Then Marian started fast in the final set taking an 11-1 lead to open the set as the Sabres were able to cruise to the sweep.  The Sabres were able to produce five service aces in the final set with freshmen Nicole Buckley and Brooklyn Taylor each serving up a pair of aces.

In total, Marian had nine service aces for the match with Buckley and Meidl each recording three aces.

The Sabre defense held the Regents to a -.026 hitting percentage for the match, while producing a .200 hitting percentage themselves.

Meidl closed out the match with a match-high 12 kills to go with a .320 hitting percentage, while freshman Hannah Walther added 10 kills off of a .333 hitting percentage.  From the back row, Taylor led all players with 10 digs.

Marian hits the road for Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday, Oct. 16 for a 7 p.m. road match in NACC action.
