Marian University women’s soccer (8-8-1, 7-5-0 NACC) evened their ledger for the season defeating Ripon 5-0.

Marian quickly was able to get on the board with junior Ashley Welk scoring just 9:52 into the match with an assist to senior Meghan Batzner.  Senior Charity Hertel was then able to convert a penalty kick for the Sabres at the 24:57 mark for her second goal of the season.  Sophomore Lillian Giron closed out the scoring for the opening half with a goal at the 35:05 mark with assists to Welk and Hertel.

The Sabres continued to push on the offensive end and scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second half.  Welk scored the opener, assist to junior Megan Harbeck, for her second goal of the game and ninth of the season just 2:26 into the stanza.  Senior Shannon Coughlin then capped the scoring with her seventh goal of the season at the 49:15 mark.

Marian was able to finish with a 41-2 advantage in shots with the Sabre defense not allowing a single shot on goal in the entire game.  Eight different Sabres recorded multiple shots in the victory.

Marian closes out the regular season hosting Edgewood for a 7 p.m. kick-off Wednesday, Oct. 27.  The Sabres also earned a spot in the NACC Tournament with St. Norbert beating Benedictine during the day.  Marian will be on the road for the opening round with their opponent to be determined yet.
