Marian University women’s soccer (3-4-0, 3-1-0 NACC) bounced back after their first NACC loss of the season defeating Benedictine 3-1.
The Sabres dominated the opening half twice opening with a goal from junior Ashley Welk. With some good dribbling, Welk was able to go near post after beating a pair of defenders for her fourth goal of the year. Then in the 28th minute, senior Meghan Batzner sent a cross into the box which ended up in the back of the net to put the Sabres ahead 2-0.
Marian finished the half with an 8-3 advantage in shots with junior Amy Birner stopping both shots that were on frame.
Senior Natalie Bilyk then beat the keeper for her first goal of the season after a nice pass from Welk to give the Sabres a 3-0 lead just 6:55 into the second half. An unassisted goal from the Eagles in the 73rd minute ended the Marian shutout but the Sabres were able to hold onto the 3-1 victory.
