ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Marian University women’s lacrosse (5-4, 0-0 NACC) scored 10 goals in the second half to defeat Augustana (Ill.) 16-6.
- After trading goals to open the game, Marian scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.
- The Vikings responded scoring four unanswered of their own in a span of 3:20 in the second quarter to quickly tie the game at 5-5.
- Sophomore Emma Heide would score with just 1:24 until half to put Marian ahead 6-5 going into the break.
- The two squads once again traded goals to open the second half before Marian pulled away for good.
- The Sabres netted four unanswered goals to finish the third quarter with sophomore Izzy Newton scoring three times.
- This gave Marian an 11-6 edge going into the final stanza.
- The last quarter was all Marian as the Sabres outscored the Vikings 5-0 to put the final at 16-6.
- Marian outshot the Vikings in all four quarters and limited Augustana (Ill.) to single-digit shots in each stanza. The Sabres finished with a 39-22 edge in shots.
- The Sabres also had a 41-26 edge in ground balls, while the Vikings won 17 draws to only nine for Marian.
- Marian went 17-for-21 (.809) on clear attempts and the Vikings were just 10-of-20 (.500)
- The Marian defense forced 37 turnovers.
- This was just the second meeting between the two programs and the first win for Marian.
