Marian University women’s hockey (6-10-2, 3-3-0-3 NCHA) dropped an overtime thriller to St. Norbert 2-1 to open an NCHA series.

After a scoreless opening period, sophomore Brenna Abrahamson lit the lamp for the first time in her career at the 15:51 mark of the second period to open the scoring.  Junior Brooke Anderson assisted the goal.  St. Norbert had a response with just 20 seconds left in the period to tie the game with a power-play tally.

The third period was just like the first with neither team finding the back of the net leading to an extra period of hockey.  Both squads had opportunities in the extra stanza but the game looked destined for a shootout until the Green Knights scored with just 3.6 seconds remaining.

St. Norbert held a 35-28 advantage in shots for the game with freshman Shelby Tryba recording eight of the Marian shots.  Junior Kayla Kolpitcke (6-10-2) made 33 saves between the pipes for the Sabres.

Marian travels to St. Norbert for a 3 p.m. puck drop tomorrow, Saturday, January 29, to close out the series.
