Marian University women’s hockey (1-4-0, 1-2-0-0 NCHA) dominated Dubuque 6-2 for its first win of the season.

  • The Sabres dominated each period but it took until 1:03 remained in the opening period before senior Mackenzie Rosin scored a power-play goal to put Marian ahead 1-0.
  • Marian built its lead out to 2-0 9:42 into the second when senior Hannah Cunha lit the lamp with assists from sophomore Aubriella Westphal and senior Lilly Accola.
  • Sophomore Logan Crawford made the lead three goals heading into the final period when she scored with 5:53 left in the second.
  • Dubuque scored just 54 seconds into the third period to cut the Marian lead to 3-1.
  • Junior Jadyn Gorski quickly built the lead back to three goals scoring a short-handed goal just 3:44 later with assists from senior Alyssa Heim and junior Allie Kieffer.
  • Crawford netted her second goal of the game with 6:03 left to play for her first multi-goal game to put Marian ahead 5-2.
  • Senior Victoria Paton closed out the scoring at 6-2 finding the back of the net with 4:18 to play with assists from senior Aeryn Olson and Crawford.
  • Marian held Dubuque to just two shots in the second period as part of a 51-16 advantage in shots.
  • The Sabre power play finished 1-for-3 (.333), while the penalty kill didn’t allow a goal on five Spartan chances along with netting a short-handed goal.
  • Marian won 39 face-offs to only 22 for the Spartans.
  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.
  • Head Coach Julian Giantonio earns his first victory as a Sabre with the win.
