Marian University women’s hockey (3-8-2, 1-3-0-2 NCHA) scored the final two goals of the game to defeat Northland 2-1.
The Sabres were able to dominate the opening two periods of action as Marian outshot the LumberJills 32-12 after 40 minutes of play. Northland was able to keep Marian off the scoreboard, however, as the game headed into the final stanza.
Northland was able to find the back of the net on a redirect in front of the net 5:39 into the period. Then on a breakaway opportunity, junior Brooke Anderson was able to bury her third goal of the season with 6:26 left to play, assist to fellow junior McKenna Krosch. With just 1:21 left, freshman Madeline Chimenti tipped in a shot in front of the net for the first goal of her career. Sophomores Aeryn Olson and Hannah Cunha each earned an assist on what proved to be the game-winner.
The Sabres finished with a 43-20 advantage in shots for the game led by Cunha and freshman Jadyn Gorski who each had five shots on goal. Gorski was also able to go 12-of-17 in the faceoff circle. Sophomore Kalyla Kolpitcke (3-8-2) held Northland scoreless on four power plays and made 19 saves to earn the win in goal.
