Marian University women’s ice hockey (6-10-1, 2-5-0-1 NCHA) completed its first NCHA sweep of the season defeating Lawrence 3-1.

  • The first period was even with each team registering 10 shots and neither squad finding the back of the net.
  • Senior Melodee Eastman used her backhand on a breakaway to light the lamp at the 11:14 mark of the second period to open the scoring. The goal was her second of the season.
  • Lawrence responded at the 16:27 mark to put the squads tied at 1-1 after two period.
  • Marian quickly broke the tie with sophomore Allie Kieffer scoring her fourth of the season at the 2:26 mark.
  • The Sabres then controlled the puck for most of the period with sophomore Sydney Schipper icing the victory with an empty-net goal with 16 seconds remaining.
  • Marian outshot Lawrence 43-23 for the game with a 33-13 advantage over the final two periods.
  • The Sabre penalty kill once again kept Lawrence off the board in six opportunities, but the power play was also scoreless on five chances.
  • Marian held an advantage on faceoffs going 36-26.
