Marian University women’s hockey (7-14-2, 4-7-0-3 NCHA) got stronger as the game went on defeating Finlandia 6-2.

The Lions opened the scoring just 4:44 into the game before sophomore Bailey Williams lit the lamp with 7:40 left in the first period to tie the game.  Freshman Madeline Chimenti earned an assist on what was the final goal of the period.

The Sabres took their first lead of the game when junior Brooke Anderson found the back of the net at the 10:25 mark with an assist to sophomore Mackenzie Rosin.  The lead didn’t last long, however, as Finlandia tied the game with 3:38 to play in the period.  Then with just 30 seconds remaining, sophomore Aeryn Olson gave the Sabres the lead for good with an assist to Rosin.

Marian was outshot in the final period but found the back of the net three times to ice the game.  Sophomore Brynn Weaver opened the scoring for the period just 1:55 in with an assist to junior Melodee Eastman.  Junior Kristen Bisschop would bury a penalty shot at the 16:11 mark to put the Sabres ahead 5-2.  Olson then scored with just 39 seconds remaining in the game with Marian on a power play with assists to Bisschop and sophomore Brenna Abrahamson.

The Sabres held a slim 31-27 advantage in the game for shots with sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke (7-14-2) making 25 saves to earn the win.

Marian travels to Lake Forest for their final road game of the regular season Friday, February 18 for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
