WATERLOO, Iowa – Marian University women’s bowling posted their highest scoring average of the season at 955 to finish second at the Peacock Classic.
The Sabres would drop their first Baker match of the weekend but quickly bounced back to win their final four match-ups. In their second Baker match of the tournament against Carroll the Sabres would score 1,012 to mark the only game of the entire tournament a team broke 1,000 pins. The Sabres averaged 927 pins in those final four Baker games, all victories for Marian. Marian continued their strong momentum at day two earning victories in all five of their traditional matches. The Sabres reached at least 920 pins in four of their five games including a 993 in their final match-up of the day. Marian would finish with a 942 average in the traditional matches.
This earned Marian a tie atop the team leaderboard with Valparaiso at 9-1. After defeating Aurora in six games, Marian would find themselves matched up with Valparaiso for the championship. The Sabres took three of the first four games of the championship match before Valparaiso broke 200 pins in the final three games to defeat Marian.
All five of the Marian bowlers finished in the top 12 of the individual leaderboard led by Brenna Schiekiera who averaged 194.3 pins to finish in fifth place. Schiekiera was one of six bowlers to average more than 190 pins. The final four Sabre bowlers finished right in line from ninth to 12th place. Addison Jacak led the way with a 186.2 average followed by Jenna Betts at 185.8. Jazmin Koeberl finished 11th with a 185.7 average and Alyssa Ritchie rounded out the Sabres with a 184.5 average.
Marian heads to Weston, Wis. for the GLBC III Tournament January 29-30.
