CHICAGO – Marian University women’s bowling added on to their CCIW regular season championship winning the conference tournament over the weekend.
The top-seeded Sabres opened the tournament with wins over Carroll and Aurora to earn their spot in championship Sunday. Marian was able to defeat Carroll 784-772 in the traditional game and followed that up with an 897-791 victory in the Baker format. Then against Aurora, who claimed a share of the CCIW regular season championship, the Sabres earned another sweep defeating the Spartans 966-873 in traditional and 833-808 in Baker.
After Carthage defeated Aurora to start the day on Sunday, the Firebirds were able to use that momentum to force a winner-take-all seventh game. The Sabres won the opening traditional match 965-792 but struggled in Baker falling 921-843 and in the best of seven tie breaker. Marian was able to bounce back in a big way in game seven defeating Carthage in four of the five Baker games to claim their second CCIW Tournament Championship.
