DEKALB, Ill. – Marian University women’s bowling defeated North Central (Ill.) in three games and swept Carthage to earn a spot in the championship round of the CCIW Tournament.
* The CCIW Tournament follows a best of three “Mega Match Format” which consists of a traditional team game, Baker total pinfall game, and Baker best of seven game *
- The top-seeded Sabres were able to get out to a strong start against fourth-seeded NCC with a slim 952-926 win to open its first mega match game.
- The Cardinals were able to force a third game after a 934-910 win in the Baker pinfall game.
- Marian was able to hold off the Cardinals, however, defeating NCC 4-2 in the final game.
- The Sabres were then pitted against the second-seeded Carthage who defeated Aurora in three games.
- Marian bowled the best traditional game of any team in the field defeating Carthage 1,005-900.
- The Sabres then secured a sweep of the Firebirds with a 900-814 win in Baker pinfall.
- Marian will now face the winner of Carthage and North Central (Ill.) at approximately noon tomorrow, Sunday, March 26.
- With a win, the Sabres will clinch its third consecutive CCIW Tournament Championship. If Marian is defeated, the two teams will square off in a best of seven Baker series to determine the tournament champion.
This is the first year the CCIW Tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
