Marian University women’s basketball (1-3, 0-0 NACC) used a dominating fourth quarter to defeat Lake Forest 68-52.

  • Neither team led by more than three points in an opening quarter that saw Lake Forest take a slim 13-11 lead.
  • The Foresters scored the first five points of the second quarter to build its lead up to 18-11.
  • Marian was able to take over the final six minutes of the quarter, however, using a 13-2 run to take a 24-20 lead into halftime.
  • The Sabres maintained the lead for the entirety of the third stanza building its lead to as large as nine points.
  • Marian would head into the final quarter ahead 41-34.
  • The Sabres opened the fourth with the first five points to take a 12 point lead with 8:59 left to play.
  • Lake Forest wouldn’t go away quietly trimming its deficit to as small as four at 53-49 with 4:05 on the clock.
  • The Sabres bounced back nicely, however, going on a 15-2 spurt to lead 68-51 with the final settling at 68-52.
  • Marian outscored the Foresters 27-18 over the final 10 minutes.
  • Marian went 21-of-61 (.344) from the field, while the defense held LFC to 16-of-49 (.327) from the field and just 4-of-28 (.143) from beyond the arc.
  • The Sabres forced 22 turnovers and outscored Lake Forest 17-9 in points off turnovers.
  • Marian also collected 15 offensive rebounds that created 19 points.
  • This was just the second meeting all-time between the two programs with each team now holding one victory.
