HANCOCK, Mich. – Marian University women’s basketball (2-3, 0-0 NACC) earned a 69-62 win over Northland to open Finlandia Thanksgiving Classic.

The Sabres were able to jump out to a big start outscoring Northland 23-14 in the first quarter.  The biggest run for Marian came at the end of the stanza when they scored six unanswered points.  Northland bounced back in the second half, however, outscoring the Sabres 22-13 to send the game into a 36-36 tie at half.

Marian had another strong finish to the third quarter with the Sabres managing to take a 52-48 lead into the final quarter.  The Sabres used that momentum jumping out to a 61-53 lead to open the final quarter and never looked back to earn the non-conference win.

Senior Paris Harris dominated grabbing eight defensive rebounds to go with a game-high 26 points.  Junior Claire Levendoski also chipped in 11 points off the bench with freshman Hope Burns grabbing eight defensive rebounds as well.

Marian takes on UW-Platteville tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. from Finlandia.
