Marian University women’s basketball (8-18, 6-12 NACC) closed out the season with a 69-61 win over Alverno.
- Neither team led by more than four points in an opening quarter that saw both offenses clicking.
- The Sabres were able to head into the first break with a 17-16 advantage.
- Alverno would tie the game at 21-21 before Marian closed out the second quarter on a 19-4 run to go into halftime ahead 40-25.
- Marian outscored the Inferno 23-9 for the second stanza.
- The Sabres built their lead to as large as 55-35 with 3:01 left in the third quarter before Alverno began to rally.
- The Inferno scored six unanswered to close out the third quarter.
- Marian was able to hold off the spurt from Alverno and built its lead back out to 66-55 with 1:29 to play.
- The Inferno managed to cut their deficit to as small as five but Marian was able to ice the win at the free throw line.
- Marian shot 24-of-58 (.414) for the game and 4-of-15 (.267) on three-pointers. The Sabres had an efficient day at the charity stripe as well going 17-of-28 (.607)
- Alverno was 26-of-78 (.333) from the field and 6-of-25 on three-pointers.
- The Sabre defense was able to force 20 Inferno turnovers.
- Marian finishes the season with six NACC wins, the most since the 2014-15 season.
