Marian University is hosting a Superbowl “Ring Bling” fundraising event with former Green Bay Packers player and current Marian University Senior Vice President for University Relations, Dr. George Koonce. The Fond du Lac Community is invited to meet Dr. Koonce and, for a donation, take a photo with George and his Superbowl XXXI Ring.

Event dates, times, and locations are:

  • February 8 & 9 from 11:30 – 1:00pm (Lobby of Agnes Hazotte Hall)
  • February 8 from 6:30 – 7:00pm & during halftime of Men’s volleyball game (Howard Sadoff Gymnasium)
  • February 9 from 6:30 – 7:00pm & during halftime of Men’s basketball game (Howard Sadoff Gymnasium)

With a $20.00 donation, participants will be photographed with the Superbowl Ring and receive a digital image. With a $40.00 donation, participants will be photographed with Dr. Koonce and the Superbowl Ring and receive a digital image. Money raised will support the Marian Fund which provides financial resources to address immediate needs such as financial aid and tuition assistance to students.

Dr. George Koonce played linebacker for the Green Bay Packers from 1992 through 1999. A starter in all eight seasons, Koonce was with the Packers when they won Superbowl XXXI. Following his NFL career, he earned his graduate degree in sports management from East Carolina University, followed by a PhD in interdisciplinary studies from Marquette University. He is one of only three Packer players in the 102-year history to earn a Ph.D. and is affectionately known as “The Doctor of Defense.”
