Marian University softball (7-9, 2-2 NACC) defeated Rockford 4-3 and 4-2 in its home opener.

GAME 1

  • Rockford was able to score a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning despite only recording one hit.
  • Freshman Ariana Schliepp would get Marian on the board driving in a run in the third.
  • The Regents had an immediate response hitting a solo home run to extend its lead to 3-1.
  • This advantage held up until the bottom of the sixth when senior Emalee Depa hit a three-run homer, her second home run of the season, to put Marian ahead for the first time.
  • Rockford was able to put the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh but Marian held on for the win.

GAME 2

  • One big inning proved to be the difference as Marian secured a sweep.
  • Schliepp opened the scoring for a three-run third with her fourth home run of the season.
  • Senior Andrea Miller did the same with a two-run homer of her own, her second of the season.
  • Rockford cut the Sabre lead to 3-1 in the fourth before Marian produced an insurance run on the base paths in the sixth.
  • The Regents made things interesting in the seventh scoring a run, but Marian was once again able to hold on.
