Marian University softball (8-12, 3-5 NACC) earned a walk-off 4-3 win in the opener before falling to Dominican 9-0 in five innings.

GAME 1

  • Neither offense had much going in the opener with Dominican scoring once in the second and third to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Marian was able to tie the game in the fifth off of a sacrifice fly from senior Julia Corona and run-producing single from freshman Abigail Schreiber.
  • The Stars would retake the lead in the top of the seventh at 3-2 but Marian had a rally.
  • Senior Andrea Miller tied the game with a single to left before freshman Hope Matta drove in the game-winning run to give Marian a 4-3 win.

GAME 2

  • One big inning proved to be the difference as Dominican was able to earn a split.
  • The Stars would score a pair of unearned runs in the third before a six-run fourth inning.
  • Dominican closed out the game with a run in the fifth to put the mercy-rule final at 9-0.
