MILWAUKEE – Marian University softball (10-12, 5-5 NACC) defeated Alverno 20-8 and 11-3 in a pair of five-inning games.

GAME 1

  • The Sabres trailed 4-1 after the first inning but the Inferno lead wouldn’t last long.
  • The Sabres put together nine runs in the second inning to retake the lead.
  • Sophomore Kerena Wood hit a grand slam in the inning and senior Andrea Miller hit a two-run blast later in the frame.
  • The ball kept flying in the third as seniors Kaley Ludvigsen and Emalee Depa each hit three-run homers to put Marian ahead 16-5.
  • Marian scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth to go up 20-5.
  • The Inferno managed two runs in the bottom of the frame to put the mercy-rule win at 20-8.

GAME 2

  • The Marian offense continued to dominate scoring in all five innings of game two.
  • The Sabres opened with three runs in the first and Alverno responded with two of its own.
  • Marian managed to score three unanswered between the second and third highlighted by another long ball from Miller.
  • Alverno once again responded in the third cutting the deficit down to 6-3.
  • Marian then scored five unanswered runs to earn another mercy-rule win.
  • Depa drove in a pair of runs in the fifth and Wood hit a solo shot earlier in the frame.
