MINNEAPOLIS – Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (1-4-0, 0-2-0-0 NCHA) defeated an Augsburg squad that is receiving votes in the national poll by a 6-2 final.

  • Augsburg would open the scoring just 5:32 in but the Sabres were able to quickly respond.
  • Freshman Jordan Edwards would score his first Sabre goal just 2:42 later with assists from fellow freshman Cole Carlson and senior Austin Nault.
  • Marian then took its first lead with 9:09 left in the period when sophomore Noah Pickart netted a power-play goal with assists from junior Daunte Fortner and senior Alex Rondeau.
  • This 2-1 lead held all the way into the third period when the Sabre special teams padded the lead.
  • After an Augsburg major penalty put Marian on the power play for five minutes, Pickart netted his second power-play goal with assists from senior Mason Richey and Fortner at the 8:31 mark.
  • Another penalty from the Auggies put Marian on a 5-on-3 power play that senior Jordan Simoneau was able to light the lamp on. Pickart and senior Nicholas Cherkowski each assisted the goal to put Marian ahead 4-1.
  • Sophomore Quinn Mulder put Marian ahead 5-1 scoring just 1:10 after the Simoneau goal with an assist from Richey.
  • The Auggies were able to trim its deficit to just 5-2 shortly after, but Simoneau would put in an empty-net goal with 2:56 left to put the final at 6-2.
  • Marian had double-digit shots in all three periods finishing with a 41-34 advantage in shots.
  • Each team had 39 wins in the face-off circle.
  • The Sabre power play finished 3-for-6 in the game while the penalty kill allowed just one goal on five chances. The lone Augsburg power-play goal came with just one second left on the kill.
  • This is the first time Marian has beaten Augsburg in the all-time series. It was also the first meeting between the two programs since the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
