DUBUQUE, Iowa – Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (2-4-0, 1-2-0-0 NCHA) earned its first conference victory defeating Dubuque 5-3.
- The Spartans were able to take a 2-0 lead with just 5:51 left in the opening period after a full-strength goal followed by a power-play goal.
- Marian was able to build momentum finishing the period strong when senior Mason Richey scored his first of the season with 1:47 left in the period with a helper from freshman Quinn Mulder.
- The Sabres were then able to tie the game at 2-2 8:48 into the second period when junior Daunte Fortner lit the lamp for the second time this season with assists from junior Jaymes Knee and senior Adam Nobes.
- Dubuque was able to rally taking a 3-2 lead into the final period after scoring just 1:37 later.
- Nobes quickly tied the game just 4:14 into the period with his first goal of the season with an assist from senior Nolan Kadachuk.
- Then with just 8:30 left to play, freshman Jordan Edwards scored his second goal in as many days to give Marian its first lead.
- A power-play goal from freshman Caden Carlson, his first collegiate goal, sealed the victory just 1:02 later. Senior Jordan Simoneau and Knee each earned an assist.
- Marian outshot Dubuque 9-7 in the third but the Spartans held a 27-23 advantage for the game.
- Each team went 1-for-3 on the power play.
- The Sabres held a heavy advantage in face-offs with 35 wins to only 18 for Dubuque.
