HANCOCK, Mich. – Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (10-11-2, 4-6-5-1 NCHA) scored four goals in the second period to defeat Finlandia 5-1.
- Sophomore Jaymes Knee opened the scoring with a goal at the 9:08 mark of the first period, assists to freshman Seth McCulloch and junior Nolan Kadachuk.
- The 1-0 score stood until senior Zach Lawrence scored with just 3:13 left in the second period without an assist.
- Finlandia would light the lamp with just 31 seconds left in the period on a power play to cut the Marian lead to 2-1 going into the third.
- Junior Anthony Bilka gave Marian a two-goal lead 1:47 into the third period with assists to McCulloch and fellow freshman Noah Pickart.
- The Lion comeback began at the 5:42 mark with a short-handed goal.
- Finlandia then tied the game with just 2:43 left in regulation.
- It took just one shot in overtime for Marian to grab two points, however, as Knee scored with assists to junior Alex Rondeau and senior Jack Sampson.
- Marian outshot Finlandia 32-23 with the Lions outshooting Marian just one period for the whole weekend.
- The Sabre power play was scoreless on five chances, while Finlandia scored once on seven opportunities.
- Marian won 43 of the 83 faceoffs in the game.
- With the five-point weekend, Marian clinched a spot in the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs and currently sit in sixth heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
