ADRIAN, Mich. – Marian University men’s volleyball (3-0, 0-0 NACC) earned their third sweep of the season defeating Olivet 25-14, 25-21, and 25-16.
The Sabre defense came out fast as the Sabres were able to hold the Comets to a -.080 hitting percentage in the opening set. Marian started quick with a 6-1 advantage that eventually blossomed to 22-10 with an 8-1 spurt later in the set.
Olivet had more kills than the Sabres in the second set but Marian was able to hit more efficiently. Marian never trailed in the set and dominated in sideouts allowing Olivet to score consecutive points twice in the set. The Sabre offense then dominated the final set with their best performance of the match hitting .300 with 13 kills. Marian was able to close out the match with a 7-1 run.
Sophomore Derek Wills posted a team-high 12 kills and had three service aces to pace the offense. Senior Zach Zelenik had a big match with 26 assists, three service aces, a team-high eight digs, and four assisted blocks.
Marian closes out their trip to Adrian taking on host Adrian at 9 a.m. (CST) and Millikin at 11:30 a.m. (CST).
