Marian University men’s volleyball (21-6, 7-2 NACC) swept Edgewood 25-20, 25-19, and 25-21 at home.

The Sabres started slow as Edgewood jumped out to an early 6-2 lead to start the match.  Marian then went on an 9-2 run to take a 13-10 lead, which they would never relinquish.  The Eagles managed to cut their deficit down to one on four occasions but Marian scored the final three points of the set to earn a 25-20 win.

The opening half of the second set was tight with neither team leading by more than three points leading to a 16-15 Marian edge.  The Sabres then scored five straight points to put the set away and go up 2-0.  Using that momentum, Marian jumped ahead 5-2 in the third set only to have Edgewood rally and take an 8-7 advantage.  The Sabres responded scoring four straight points only to have Edgewood use a 5-2 run to tie the set at 13-13.

Another spurt of four straight points proved to be too much for Edgewood to overcome for a second time as Marian went ahead 17-13.  The Eagles trailed by just 23-21 late but a Marian timeout helped set up kills from sophomore Derek Wills and junior Cam Muller to end the match.

A balanced offensive attack saw five Sabres record a least four kills led by Wills who posted 13 kills.  He also had seven digs and a pair of blocks.  Senior Carzell Combs paced the back row with 10 digs, while freshman Dante Pulphus had three service aces.  Junior Nick Stasch posted 29 assists with an ace and six digs.

Marian plays their final road match of the regular season traveling to CUW Wednesday, March 30 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
