CHICAGO – Marian University men’s volleyball (14-10, 7-5 NACC) finished its season with a 25-23, 25-20, 30-32, 25-20 win over Illinois Tech.

  • Illinois Tech opened the match with a 9-7 lead before Marian scored four straight to lead 11-9.
  • The Scarlet Hawks responded with a 6-1 spurt to go ahead 15-12.
  • This lead didn’t last long either as Marian went on a 9-3 run to take the lead for good at 21-18.
  • The second set was a seesaw affair with Marian holding a 17-16 lead.
  • The Sabres then went on a 6-2 run to pull ahead 23-18 and go up 2-0.
  • Marian led for most of the third set and had a 20-16 lead late.
  • Illinois Tech was able to rally from this deficit and took a 23-22 lead.
  • The Sabres were able to fight off five set-point opportunities before IIT earned a win.
  • Marian jumped ahead once again in the fourth set and this time didn’t look back.
  • A 5-1 run allowed Marian to lead 14-9 and the Sabres cruised the rest of the way.
  • The Marian offense had 55 kills and hit .264 for the match.
  • The Sabre defense was able to block eight IIT attacks.
  • Marian finishes the season in a tie for fifth in the NACC standings but will miss postseason play due to a three-way tiebreaker with CUC and Dominican.
